SRU Signs MOU with Hechi University, Focusing on Economic Crop Research and Rural Education Development

On November 8,2025 Assistant Professor Dr. Wattana Rattanaprom, President of Suratthani Rajabhat University (SRU), led a delegation on a visit to Hechi City, People’s Republic of China. During the visit, an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) was signed with Hechi University, with President Ma Shaojian participating in the event.
This collaboration reinforces SRU’s commitment to expanding its international cooperation network. The primary goal is to apply academic knowledge for the social and economic benefit of the region.
4 Key Goals of the Thai-China Cooperation
The agreement focuses on development in four main areas:
- Joint Research: To study planting techniques for economic crops and develop regional agricultural models, leveraging the academic strengths of both institutions.
- Education for Rural Areas: To explore effective ways to use education to aid in Rural Revitalization.
- Personnel Development: To promote in-depth cooperation in higher education, teacher training, and applied research between Thailand and China.
- Social Services: To stimulate faculty and student exchanges, as well as social service practices, to enhance the social service capabilities of both regions
5-Year Plan and “Thai Ruby Red Pomelo” Field Visit
Under the 5-year cooperation plan, the two universities will collaborate deeply on various projects. These include educational programs to support farmers, joint research, personnel and student exchanges, industry-education integration, and the promotion of culture and language.
During the visit, the SRU delegation also traveled to Wangliu Village in Gaoling Town, Du’an Yao Autonomous County. There, they observed and held discussions with local villagers regarding the planting technology for the “Thai Ruby Red Pomelo,” a key economic crop from Thailand.
This cooperation highlights SRU’s use of its expertise in agriculture and regional affairs to support the local development of both Thailand and China.
